Choosing Commitment Over Compensation


Recently, I faced a challenging decision that tested my commitment to integrity. As an unemployed professional actively seeking work, I was presented with a lucrative opportunity that clashed with a prior commitment I had made to my high school band program's alumni concert. Despite not playing anymore, I had volunteered to serve as a photographer and videographer for the event, dedicating my entire day to capturing the spirit and talent of the program.


The decision was tough, but I made it almost immediately. Accepting the paid gig meant financial relief, yet it also meant breaking a promise to a community that had been a significant part of my life. I chose to honor my commitment, declining the paid opportunity.


This choice wasn't about financial gain but about staying true to my word and supporting a program that continues to make a profound impact on its community. It reminded me that integrity isn't just about the big gestures; it's found in the choices we make every day, especially when those choices aren't easy.
